Does XoftSpySE Make the Grade?
XoftSpySE 4.33 by ParetoLogic is the version tested in this review, and is the latest edition offered of the XoftSpySE spyware and adware product. If you are experiencing slow computer problems, are automatically directed to websites you don’t want to visit, or you are getting pop ups or self loading toolbars, XoftSpySE is a product that can effectively resolve the problems for you. XoftSpySE detects and removes adware, spyware, pop-up generators, keyloggers, torjans, hijackers, and malware.

Complete Review: The computer tested was a 2004 Dell Dimension 4500 with XP Home Edition and Service Pack 2. The time from start to finish of the initial scan was six minutes and 12 seconds. 410,349 objects were scanned. XoftSpySE works with Windows 98, ME, 2000, or XP. Ease of Use/Download: The XoftSpySE download was extremely easy and happened in less than one minute. The user interface was extremely simple to understand and explained each feature clearly. For the “non techie” type this is great software since it doesn’t take an engineering degree to figure out. Even the customization features and settings were easy to apply (with checked boxes or drop down menus). The interface contains action buttons on the left side and is extremely well laid out. You will see the action button choices described in features below. Features: Extensive Definitions Database – At the time of review there were 287,437 items in the definitions database used to compare solutions to parasites detected. In layman terms, this software has more tools to detect and remove infections than other products. Running Processes – The software allows you to scan files of even applications that are in use on the computer. This is incredibly convenient. Explorer Default Setting Protection – This prevents hijackers from taking over your internet browser. The Software Interface Contains: Start Scan – Obviously starts scanning for errors on your system. General Settings – Contains start up options (to launch with or without scanning), default home page, default search page, check for updates automatically, prompts for downloading the database and program updates, and there is a “check for updates” option. Scan Settings – There are scan options for browser hijackers (redirects you to websites you don’t want to visit or will change your start page), scans for spyware installed on registry, scan active processes (applications currently running on your system), scan host files (including hijacked web addresses), scan system folders (finds spyware files that are installed to my system folders), and scan of selected folders (click link to choose folders to scan). Scheduling – You can choose weekly, monthly, once, at system start up, at logon, when idle, specific days of the week, and choice of hour to scan. There is an advanced setting that allows you to choose a “to and from” date to scan. Backup List – Allows you to restore quarantined files if you don’t like the changes or you can delete those files. Ignore List – Allows you to choose which files (folders) you want to ignore. About – Product info, tech support, terms of use, and enter license key. Will redirect to purchase screen if key must be purchased for repair to take place. There is a 128 bit SSL encryption for orders (safe for orders). Help – Redirects you to the Pareto website where you can choose your operating system and product type. Though live help is not offered, I can see little chance of a user needing it since this software is so simple. Support: ParetoLogic offers XoftSpySE users with an extensive online database and FAQ section in case instant help is needed. As mentioned previously, we never needed any kind of contact or support because the product was so easy and effective. There is 24/7 live technical help. You will also find an informational blog on the Pareto website that will share the latest threats and give tips to keeping your PC safe and performing a great levels. Effectiveness: XoftSpySE detected over 72 percent of previously installed spyware and adware and removed 92 percent of the objects detected without further evidence that they ever existed. This was all done on the first scan and repair which was impressive. The initial scan detected 308 total definitions (different infection types). There were 34 running processes conducted. Two registry keys were identified, and 11 registry values were identified. Infections of 277 files were detected as well as 18 folders. The computer repaired ran significantly faster after repairing and restarting the system. In addition, no pop ups or added tool bars were evident. Recommendation: You can’t beat the price for the effectiveness of this product. Though there is no real time application, you will get updates on average twice a week. With a higher detected parasite rate than competitors, the real time feature becomes less important. We do recommend XoftSpySE as a top choice, especially for those who want ease and speed of repair.
